Scottie Marsh

Born in 1984, Scottie Marsh from Sydney Australia is well known for his dynamic and expressive art, from outside to indoors. Using a mix of enamels, acrylics and aerosols, Scottie has forged a clear and confident path between street art and fine art. His brash use of street art to question our cult-like worship of the celebrity is balanced with delicate floral still life works he produces on canvas.

Scottie Marsh is just as comfortable painting a wall mural as he is in his inner Sydney studio. He also has an intricate knowledge of the Sydney rail network. “Much of what I employ in terms of pallet, scale and the manner in which I paint comes from my background in graffiti”. Scottie is still an active user of Sydney’s rail services, recently staging a pop-up exhibition “Australian Graffiti” on Sydney Central Line train carriage.

“Art is an expression of my experience. It’s reflecting my experience in graffiti and then in life, putting that together and then placing it on a canvas”. As Scottie continues to explore the relationship between graffiti and fine art his work will continue to evolve. “My style is always evolving. I try and push my practice any time I paint something. “ Whether it is using a different colour or a different brush Scottie works patiently to evolve his art little by little, and always into something better.

The language of graffiti is something deeply personal to Scottie who appreciates its global appeal.  Travel to some of the world’s most urbanised countries across North & South America, South East Asia and Europe has furthered his respect for the democratising and universal access to street art. His works available to purchase on reflect all of this passion and admiration for the street as well as for fine art.

Scottie graduated in 2009 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the College of Fine Arts at the University of New South Wales. He has also completed a subsequent Bachelor of Secondary Education (Visual Arts) from the University of Technology Sydney.

Artistry Studios is proud to support Scottie Marsh as he goes from strength to strength in Australia and internationally.
