Jess Cochrane

Jessica Cochrane is an early career artist from Canberra currently based and practicing in Sydney, Australia.

Jess’s work is a thoughtful, challenging, sometimes playful representation of today’s society and Pop Culture. Heavily focused on contradictory aspects surrounding beauty and feminine standards, Jess achieves this through painterly application over photographic images. Often working in very large scale, the power and energy of Jess’s work is easily felt.

She takes all the photos herself that form the base of her works. More often than not they are strong minded females from a range of different cultural & professional backgrounds. There is a constant focus in her work to highlight contradictions between psychological and physical aspects of female beauty. Through clever application of paint on high quality photographic images, Jess also draws out of her subjects a raw, free energy that is the modern female heroine.

In 2014 Jess’s body of work ‘Pretty Ugly’ was nominated for the National Graduate Show at PICA, Perth. More recently, Jess exhibited an impressive solo exhibition at Brisbane Powerhouse Museum in QLD. Jess in also in demand with innovative organisations having collaborated with clients such as Oscar Wylee, Groovin’ The Moo,  The Ladies Network and The Lord Gladstone Hotel.

Jess also loves to paint large murals on any wall she can get access to, indoors or outdoors. Artistry Studios is happy to promote Jess Cochrane and watch her continue to raise her profile both in Australia and internationally.
